New Acquisitions

With the closure of Terry’s of York we acquired a large archive of packaging and other related material donated by the firm to help record their long association with the City of York. The Trust has received a gift of two rare Staffordshire pottery flatbacks depicting Dick Turpin and Tom King. The Contemporary Art Society has donated two works: Three Cups by Julian Stair and Abstract Landscape by William Gear. The Friends of York Art Gallery continued their generous support for the collections with the donation of ceramic works by Chris Keenan and Paul Scott as well as support for the purchase of a bowl by Picasso and a watercolour of York Minster by John Varley. York Art Gallery was allocated A Wooded Landscape with Cottage and Peasant by Hobbema as a work accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance tax.
