School Partnerships
During 2005/6, 406 schools from all over the country took part in education workshops at York Art Gallery (100), York Castle Museum (176), and the Yorkshire Museum (130). The overall total for York Castle Museum and the Yorkshire Museum was 306, up from the overall total of 200 for the two venues in 2004/5 ( when York Art Gallery was closed), a rise of just over 50 per cent . The workshops ranged from Early Years groups up to post-16 students.
Partnerships were formed with several schools which helped develop or pilot new resources and sessions, or took part in projects and teacher placements. These included:

Partnerships were also developed with Higher Education and Further Education institutions in York:
- Talks and presentations on gallery and museum education to students from York University and York St. John College
- Talk on Business Studies to students from York College
- The development of a new interactive unit for York Art Gallery by Design students from York. St. John College
- ‘Meet the Artist’ talks with students from York College and York St. John College
- Placement of four Initial Trainee Teachers from York St. John College
For teachers the following opportunities were developed:
- The trust hosted meetings of City of York Council LEA’s Secondary Network Learning Groups, which meet to develop curriculum resources in specific subject areas, in the areas of art and history. It also hosted meetings of the Primary Curriculum Support Group, in art.
- The trust took part in the ‘Out and About’ training day for York teachers, with events at all sites for York primary school teachers.
- Two ‘Meet the Curator’ events were held in science and archaeology
- A Victorian classroom experience for a group of European teachers on an exchange visit to St. Lawrence’s Primary School
The learning team also worked in partnership with Creative Minds (receiving project funding and speaking at training days), the Group for Education in Museum (speaking at training days), North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership(teacher placements and delivering workshops for North Yorkshire primary school pupils at Science Technology Engineering and Maths fairs) and Science City York (delivering workshops to primary pupils at the ‘Discovery Days’ event for National Science Week 2005).
