A volunteer at work in the Yorkshire Museum's library

Partnerships

Central to the success of our work are the partnerships we have developed over the last five years. One of our new projects is a new website called the History of York. The Trust invited experts and enthusiasts across the city to form an expert panel who would advise and guide a series of articles to inform and guide visitors and residents to a better understanding of the history of the city. Take a look at www.historyofyork.org.uk

We also worked with our partners in Illuminating York this year with a specially commissioned peripatetic play that promenaded through the Museum Gardens, working with York Theatre Royal, City of York Council and York St John University. Illuminating York seeks to boost the evening economy during the winter months as well as introducing a contemporary element to the city's cultural programme. Future plans include more events to open up the gardens at different times of the day and evening.

The Volunteers Scheme has really taken off this year and one project with the Yorkshire Philosophical Society has been the cataloguing and sorting of the Yorkshire Museum's historic library. The intention is to make it available to interested visitors and researchers in the near future. We are very grateful to all of our volunteers for their time and expertise and in helping us improve the service we can offer to all our visitors.
