| Acquisitions | 36 | 237 | Highlights this year include the marvellous late Viking Cawood sword, the first ever allocation by DCMS of an item accepted in lieu of tax to the Yorkshire Museum. For the Art Collection we have acquired 'Irene tending Saint Sebastian's wounds' 2006 by Claire Curneen. The Contemporary Art Society presented us with a sculpture by Dave King, three decorative textiles and two works by Bridget Riley (from the Tom Bendhem Bequest). 'Six Jugs' by Philip Eglan was purchased and works by Paul Young and Mike Eden were donated by the Friends of York Art Gallery. Two 19th century rocking horses were received as a bequest. In preparation for the 1960s display a Philips Philishave cordless razor (1965) and an un-opened packet or Persil washing powder (1966) were accepted as gifts and a handbill advertising a concert at the Rialto in York featuring the Beatles (1963) was purchased. A collection of wasps was donated by a local expert. |

| Image Use Requests | 119 | 599 | The History of Art Dept at the University of York used several images from the Art Collection on its website. The National Archives renewed their use of 'Portrait of Charlotte Fitzroy' by Sir Peter Lely on the section of their website entitled 'Black Presence: Asian and Black History in Britain 1500 - 1850'. Real Life TV obtained numerous images from several books held by York Castle Museum for a television programme about Dick Turpin. Christmas cards produced by York Civic Trust and Friends of York Minster used images from our collection. Our images were included in exhibition catalogues by TATE Britain, the Palazzo Barberini in Rome among others. Other publications include 'St Mary's Abbey and King's Manor' by York Archaeological Trust and a poetry anthology in South Africa. The majority of requests come from researchers. |

Lenders include the National Gallery, Tate, Victoria & Albert Museum, the Graves Art Gallery, Leeds City Art Gallery, private collectors and members of the public. |
| Loans Out | 21 | 140 | We have continued to lend works locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. 55 works were exhibited for 'York Minster Revealed'; Fairytales and Fantasy' exhibition was loaned to Scarborough, and other local loans included to the Waggoners Museum, Borthwick Institute, Richmondshire and Wakefield museums and the Graves Art Gallery in Sheffield. Material is also borrowed for research such as three stone axes to the research laboratory at Le Frasnois, France. The head of Constantine was loaned to the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier to continue exhibitions celebrating the life of Constantine. 'Firing Thoughts: an exhibition of Ceramics and Drawings' has transferred from the Peter Scott Gallery, Lancaster University to Manchester Metropolitan University. 'Portrait of Elizabeth Betts, Mrs Benjamin Hoadly' by William Hogarth is currently on show at La Caixa, Barcelona. These short term loans complement numerous long term loans from our collection to other institutions. |
| Conservation | 10 | 29 | A number of small finds were sent to York Archaeological Trust for conservation. Two paintings for the Marking Time exhibition, a pot by Magdalene Odundo and the wheels of the Hansom Cab in Kirkgate have been conserved. |
