York Castle Museum

The major development at York Castle Museum was the introduction of a new café and shop on the ground floor. Previously on the first floor, the café now spreads out on to the pavement in the Eye of York offering more of a welcome to visitors. It is a much better arrangement for visitors, being situated between the two halves of the museum, providing a welcome break. The new ramp to Kirkgate has improved physical access to the North Building and we have improved the signage so visitors are aware of what is on offer in both sides of the museum. Plans for opening up the riverside and extending Kirkgate are currently being developed as the major projects for 2012.

We were delighted to be successful at the Visit York Awards in April, jointly winning the Best Marketing Campaign for the York Castle Prison experience.
